What to expect from Therapy?

Depending on your personality and requirements, the therapy you experience with me may be either mindfulness-based contemporary CBT which tends to be more short -term and solution-focused or AEDP which is a ground-breaking, experiential, client-centred psychodynamic psychotherapy.

If your needs are trauma-focused, we will use specialist interventions such as ‘Rewind’ (see https://www.iartt.com for more information) and/or Logosynthesis (see https://www.logosynthesis.international/en/ for more information).

I may also offer or suggest as required, the use of creative interventions as well as mindfulness and relaxation if the client feels comfortable with these

The Process

At the start of the first session – which can either be face-to-face or online – I will formally contract with you some practicalities regarding safeguarding, confidentiality, fees and session arrangements.

The Initial Consultation session is an opportunity to get to know one another, assess your needs and establish what you would like counselling to do for you. This first session will not be like usual therapy but will give us both a sense of whether we can work together. There is no obligation to continue beyond the Initial Consultation.


I will document what you would ideally like to gain from therapy and at approximately 6-weekly intervals we will formally review our process. It is possible that your issue may be resolved in less than 6 weeks, and it is also possible that you may find yourself gradually working on a number of things that emerge over the course of a year or much longer. Both time frames are usual in my experience.

My priority is that you receive the right support for your situation, even if that means helping you find a more suitable service elsewhere.
