Is this the right service for you?

I am here to help but…

If I don’t think my skill set meets your particular needs this should be apparent during our Initial Consultation when, with your permission, I will be happy to signpost you to someone whom I think may be able to help. My priority is that you receive the right support for your situation, even if that means helping you find a more suitable service elsewhere.

The Process

At the start of the first session – which can either be face-to-face or online – I will formally contract with you some practicalities regarding safeguarding, confidentiality, fees and session arrangements.

The Initial Consultation session is an opportunity to get to know one another, assess your needs and establish what you would like counselling to do for you. This first session will not be like usual therapy but will give us both a sense of whether we can work together. There is no obligation to continue beyond the Initial Consultation.

I will document what you would ideally like to gain from therapy and at approximately 6-weekly intervals we will formally review our process. It is possible that your issue may be resolved in less than 6 weeks, and it is also possible that you may find yourself gradually working on a number of things that emerge over the course of a year or much longer. Both time frames are usual in my experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can’t attend face-to-face therapy but am unsure whether Online therapy is for me?

Since Coronavirus lockdowns occurred, people have now become used to doing things online that were previously done face to face and therapy is no exception. I have a separate document covering what is involved in online therapy to help you decide if you would like to work this way.

How do I pay? What happens if I need to cancel a session?

When we agree an Initial Consultation session, a letter will be sent out to you outlining my payment arrangements, my 24-hour cancellation policy and any other documents relevant to your therapy.

I think my teenager needs therapy. How would it work if I wanted them to come to you?

Parents naturally have lots of questions of this nature when referring young people, so I have a separate FAQs for Parents document, available on request.
